T-Lazarus

T-Lazarus was an early Russian electro-punk and experimental project led by Gene Sophia Bogolepov, active in the early 2000s in St. Petersburg. The band combined raw electronic programming, punk-influenced vocals, and DIY performance aesthetics, marking one of Bogolepov’s first steps into underground music and live experimentation.
The project was co-founded with Yadviga Astasheva, who shared front-person duties with Bogolepov, playing synthesizers and contributing vocals. Astasheva performed in French and English, while Bogolepov used English and German, creating a distinctive multilingual vocal interplay that became a signature of the band’s identity. Together, they developed a confrontational yet theatrical stage presence within the local post-Soviet alternative scene.
T-Lazarus was known for its abrasive sound, lo-fi electronic production, and experimental approach, blending punk energy with early digital and modular synthesis techniques. Although short-lived, the project played a foundational role in shaping Bogolepov’s later artistic direction, directly informing her transition into more structured electro-rock and conceptual work with Gender ID.
After many years of inactivity, T-Lazarus returned in archival form with the release of the “Titanium” EP, a collection of previously unreleased material recorded in 2004–2005. The project originated on 9 March 2003, when the band played its first club show as T-Lazarus. To mark the 23rd anniversary of that event, Bogolepov revisited the old recordings, which were originally intended for a second album that never materialized after the band broke up in late 2005 and she moved on to Gender ID.
The EP gathers these unfinished tracks – built with Fruity Loops and modular synthesizers – and presents them after remixing, additional recording, and remastering. According to Bogolepov, the material felt best preserved as a unified archival work rather than being repurposed into newer projects, as it retained the specific sound language of its time. The “Titanium” EP was released exclusively on Mycelium, available for free streaming with the option to support the artists behind the project through membership.
